ETH ZURICH

ETH Zurich was founded in 1855 and is now one of the world’s leading universities in science and technology.
It was established as the “Polytechnikum” – a central educational institution for engineers, architects, and scientists, serving the young Swiss Confederation.
Key milestones:

1855: Founded as the Swiss Federal Polytechnic School with seven departments, including architecture, engineering, chemistry, and forestry. Classes initially took place in temporary facilities in Zurich.

1909: The Polytechnikum officially receives the name Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH).

Today: ETH Zurich ranks among the top technical universities worldwide (regularly in the top 10 of international rankings). It has produced more than 20 Nobel laureates, including Albert Einstein, who studied and later taught there.
